The baseball legend, Nolan Ryan, said, “Enjoying success requires the ability to adapt. Only by being open to change will you have a true opportunity to get the most from your talent.”
We often think of the “ability to adapt” and “being open to change” as preconditions for going from bad to good. This is true, but it’s not the whole story. Professional baseball players are not poor performers. They’re the best of the best. And yet they too have to adapt and change. What do these words mean for them?
They mean developing the skills they already have. They mean learning new skills. They mean learning how to apply their skills to new situations.
How are these actions accomplished? Not through the game, but through practice!
