Athlete Steve Prefontaine explained why he ran: “You have to wonder at times what you’re doing out there. Over the years, I’ve given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement.”
These reasons are why we do a lot of what we do. They’re why we push ourselves to accomplish more even if the financial rewards don’t come immediately or at all. When we have something to offer and we offer it well, then we’re often met with financial success, but this success isn’t what gets us out of bed each day or ultimately what makes us happy. It’s the self-satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that come with a job well done that most inspires us.
It’s the feeling that we can justly say, “Yeah, I did that.”
