As a leader, I know that you have a lot on your plate on a daily basis, be it home or work. This is where I remind you to practice organizational leadership for your own growth. As much as you give out, you have to replenish within yourself. A strong leader must always maintain line-of-sight to your long term results. Today, let’s talk about how you can accomplish that.
Now, I know that leaders know that giving advice goes down a lot smoother than implementing and living it. But this is where my advice comes in,
“To achieve maximum results in … organizational leadership [you] must cultivate the correct mindset and belief for the organizational culture, then live it and mandate it.”
One more time for the people in the back,
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to remind competent managers, business owners and even myself of this mantra.
There are two key factors that can impact the overall health of your organizational leadership, one, strong alignment from top to bottom and two, the speed of change through belief vs buy-in.
You are the rivet in this alignment.
Let’s break this down even more.
Live It
Whether you are a Leader in the Middle (LIM), or a business owner, discipline and commitment must form the core regiment in your day-to-day activities. This could be as simple as waking up early in the morning to go on a walk with your partner or establishing a partner of self-sufficient by way of empowerment in your employees.
In today’s post-pandemic era, establishing strong organizational patterns becomes even more important. You have to live empathetically and compassionately to your employees while pushing them to be the best version of themselves. Even more, as a LIM, you must dedicate yourself to Serve Up and Coach Down.
Which brings me to my next point.
Teach It
I am sure as a leader your innate spirit is guided by the right principles, but it goes beyond that. You have to take the time, schedule it if you must, to teach powerful attitudes, unlimited beliefs, servant mindsets and skill development.
Your employees may look to you for answers, but practicing general observation vs coaching down will lead to assumptions and mistakes. You have to take the time to invest in your employees’ professional and personal development. This will make them become more dedicated to you, the business and its overall success.
So this is where you…
Mandate It
Now let’s be very clear, I am not telling you to stand over your employees with a broomstick. Nope, no sirree, that would be very illegal (and it isn’t a successful or productive use of time). However, I am telling you to use your authority to make your team stronger by engendering a culture that practices accountability. This means it is taught, supported, rewarded and lived by you, their leader.
Remember,
“Some people have the ability and skill, but don’t have
the will and discipline. Mandate it all or mandate they quit.
No one likes to work hard and feel like they are failing.
The harsh thing is to allow people to remain in this state
of self-destruction.”
-Nathan Jamail, Serve Up, Coach Down
This is where selfless becomes important. Your job as a leader is to ensure that your team is culturally empowered in the office. They need to buy-in to an organizational culture that demands excellence but facilitates it through growth.
This is personal to me, I practice this every day. I know that as a leader I have to, ‘Live it. Teach it. Mandate it.’ I want to help you embed this in your own personal and professional life. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me, I am here to coach you for success.
