Hey guys! Can you believe we’re officially at the end of 2022? I continue to be grateful to you, my readers, for your continued support. This will be my final blog for 2022, so I decided it would be fitting to do a 2022 leadership playbook review with you. My intention is that you will take it and apply it with your own home team before you head off to enjoy the holidays. Grab some coffee, this time I’m drinking mine black, and let’s talk.
Leadership Playbook Review #1- Remember to be committed to your home team.
We may lead on strategy, our portfolio load may be indescribable, but guess what? We wouldn’t be champions without the people that help make it all possible.
As coaches and leaders, we must care about our people and have passion for our jobs while always remembering that our commitment is to the team.
I know this can be easier said than done. What I hope is that through the various workshops, blogs, seminars, and conferences we’ve connected this year, you’ve taken away the possibility that it is possible.
Leadership Playbook Review #2- Scrimmaging, even for champs, is the only way to get on top or stay on top
No matter how elite we may feel, it is important to remain logical about how we lead our team. This means, like the Superbowl Champions or Olympic gold medalists, we can only achieve success when we consistently practice.
Practice makes perfect, or as close to perfection as possible. So, always scrimmage. Scrimmage with yourself, your peers, and your team. Remember, you’re only as great as your last big game.
When we realize the sky is not the limit, we can look outside the box and design new, game winning business plans.
Leadership Playbook Review #3- As leaders, we are accountable to ourselves and the people we lead.
Never ever forget that as a leader, it starts with us. We lead by example; we’ve got to uphold ourselves to the highest standards. We do this by practicing visible accountability by recognizing and benchmarking only the best. Afterall, if we are failing as leaders, or we favor the weak, how can we expect our team to win? According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary (and the school of life), a leader is definition is as:
- A person who has commanding authority or influence
- A first or principal performer of a group
What does this mean? It starts and ends with us. We are the standard, we create the standard, we uphold the standard and we coach our team to elevate our standards.
It takes a leader with passion, drive and desire, a leader who is greater than the struggles and obstacles he or she will endure throughout his or her career to succeed.
Again, nobody said it would be easy, nothing worth having or celebrating ever is, really. But you can do it because it is possible, and you have it in you. By following my blog or attending my seminars, demonstrates your dedication to expand on your own knowledge and to be the best.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to reviewing our 2022 leadership playbook performance, remember to:
- Celebrate your career and team’s victories
- Identify and recognize the key players that yielded success on the field
- Be logical when doing our own self assessments
Remember, knowledge is limitless; there is always something new to learn and improve. With that leadership mindset, I guarantee you can and will coach your team to success.
