There are many opinions on college education these days such as, “too expensive”, “it is useless”, “students expect to get a high paying job right at graduation, instead they get a ton of debt”, and many other opinions and thoughts. I personally have many of my own, but this is not about the opinion of the good and bad of college, this is about the one thing we do learn in college- no matter when you attended, where you attended or what you studied. That is this: we learned how to learn. Funny enough, this is also the one thing many professionals don’t use in their career life after college.
We learned how to learn
The most important lesson we learned in our schooling is the need and ability to learn and grow. This is what the most successful people in business today still do that others don’t. It is why a typical CEO reads over 40 books a year and the average person reads less than one book per year. By the way a typical CEO makes 500 X’s the average employee.
What to learn
An important thing to learn about, which is the most important topic in your life is- “How to be a better you”. This includes personal development books, personal finance, investing, wealth, leadership, mindset, selling skills. This is not about learning about one’s industry or products, although all professionals must be competent in their business and industry, this is about investing in your number one asset- “YOU”.
The facts
Most professionals don’t keep growing because they stop learning. You want to achieve greater success, more happiness and maximize your personal abilities and achievements? Then take the gifts given to you and your life experiences (also called talents and attributes) and add the commitment of learning and practice. Then you will see your success grow with purpose and intent. What you will be able to achieve will go beyond your wildest dreams.
The catch
It should go without saying, but success and personal growth will require hard work, commitment and some sacrifice. Just like everything else in our life, success is not given it is achieved by those willing to do the work and overcome their ego and fear of failing.
If you want success- learn to love to learn
